I answer to a lot of titles―mom, wife, author, entrepreneur. But at the end of the day, I'm just a human figuring it out as I go. And, this is the space where I share my experiences with you.

In the fast-paced world of business, stagnation is not an option. The failure to evolve can lead to obsolescence, or worse, being overtaken by competitors who are constantly pushing boundaries and adapting to new challenges.
In a recent episode, I reflected on the necessity of continuous evolution in business. Standing in my century-old dairy barn, soon to be renovated, I emphasized the importance of staying ahead of the curve. But what does it mean to continuously reinvent oneself as an entrepreneur?
I believe it’s about acknowledging that success in one area doesn’t mean the journey is over. Even if you’ve reached a level of competency and achieved success, there’s always more to learn. The willingness to embrace new skills and ventures is crucial for staying relevant and competitive.
I break down the process of acquiring competency into four stages: unconscious incompetence, conscious incompetence, conscious competence, and unconscious competence. Each stage represents a different level of awareness and skill mastery, with unconscious competence being the ultimate level of mastery.
But reaching unconscious competence doesn’t mean the journey ends. For me, it’s about seeking out new challenges and opportunities for growth. Despite my success in home building and real estate, I’m now venturing into writing and digital marketing, embracing the discomfort of being a beginner once again.
It’s this willingness to start over and learn new skills that sets successful entrepreneurs apart. I encourage others to embrace variety and be multi-passionate in their pursuits. Drawing from my diverse background in teaching, agriculture, and home building, I demonstrate how each experience contributes to my entrepreneurial journey.
The key is to never stop learning and growing. Each new skill acquired adds to the entrepreneur’s toolkit, enriching their journey and expanding their potential for success. So don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and embrace evolution—it’s the true path to entrepreneurial greatness.
As I conclude my message from my rustic dairy barn in Wisconsin, it’s clear that for me, the journey is just beginning. With each new challenge embraced and skill acquired, I’m paving the way for even greater success—and inspiring others to do the same.
